MUSIC – AFRICAN RHYTHMS

Djembes and other percussion

Our percussion instruments are some of the best available in Australia.
All are genuine instruments made for professional use, but they are so simple that even novices can make a tune.
The djembes, from Ghana, arrive almost complete, except they are skinned here in Australia. Because of strict AQIS rules, raw hide must be treated by gamma radiation upon entry into Australia and this dulls the djembe sound and eventually destroys the skin. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise!
We have found, we believe, the best skinner here in Australia - Jeremy, the Djembe Doctor from Kiama, who uses Australian goat skin to create great rhythms, bringing out the best in our djembes. We also have kpalongo drums and talking drums. For those of you who like to get into the African beat but are not quite ready for a drum then we have thumb guitars, cowbells, rain makers and all sorts of shakers including shekere, and caxixi.
